You too can run a functional 16-bit CPU inside Microsoft Excel thanks to one YouTube hobbyist with more willpower than I shall ever possess-

Microsoft Excel isn’t exactly up there when it comes to anyone’s top-ten list of exciting software. Regarded as the dependable if more-than-slightly dull workhorse of productivity apps, the mere mention of Excel brings to mind endless spreadsheets, budgetary calculations, and… oh no you’ve fallen asleep already. But when someone creates a functional 16-bit CPU inside it, well, that might just be worth waking up for.

YouTuber Inkbox has posted a 16-minute video (via Tom’s Hardware) detailing exactly how they built a fully-functional 3Hz 16-bit CPU in the much-maligned office app, complete with an included 128KB of RAM, a 16-colour output display and its own custom assembly language. Samsung Recalls 1 Million Electric Ranges After Fires

NEW YORK — Samsung is recalling more than 1.12 million electric ranges used for stovetops after reports of 250 fires and dozens of injuries.

According to a Thursday notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these slide-in ranges have front-mounted knobs that can be activated by accident if humans or pets unintentionally contact or bump into them. That poses a fire hazard.

To date, Samsung has received more than 300 reports of the knobs activating unintentionally since 2013, the CPSC noted, and the now-recalled ranges have been involved in about 250 fires. At least 18 of those fires caused extensive property damage and seven involved pet deaths, according to the Commission.

In addition, the CPSC added, about 40 injuries have been reported, including ei…

Self-sufficiency in petro products declines, amid steady exports

India’s petroleum products exports may be marginally outpacing the overall outward shipments, but imports of these items are rising at a faster rate. As a result, the country’s self-sufficiency in oil products has been witnessing a decline from 14.5% in 2011-12 to 12.6% in 2022-23, and further to 12.3% in April-February this fiscal, according to data from the government’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell.

India is already a huge net importer of crude oil, and import reliance for this primary source of energy has only risen in recent years.

The country imported 43.8 million tonnes of petroleum products in Apr-Feb period, up 9% from the year last year. The imports were valued at $21.2 billion.
